Image

planning for preliminary task - location shots

Image
At first when I had the idea to shoot my film based of a dream I immediately knew I was gonna need a bed to shoot so me and Mr Armstrong went to look around the school and he gave me his opinion of the place and how I could create effect and suspense in the film  I choose this room in  Boarding House at Ellesmere College  as it had only 2 windows which was gonna be useful for me as I dint want much light  I then wanted to play around with my camera angles at the sink which I was able to pull off by some miracle but I did get a shot of the character looking at the mirror and the camera captured it but I didn't use it in my film as I thought it had no meaning behind it and would be pointless  I then came to the thought of the antagonist who needed a weapon and handily the golf club was just standing there to be picked so we looked at the corridor and saw where we could place the camera and how we could be able to get enough lighting for the audience to be able to see anything  fina

Levi Strauss binary opposition theory

Image
Binary opposition theory  (A picture of Levi Strauss) A notion of "binary opposites" was put forth by French anthropologist Levi Strauss in the 1900s. According to this idea, most media narratives, including those in novels and movies, feature key characters who are in opposition to one another. These polar opposites serve to introduce contrast, advance the story, and thicken the storyline. Binary opposites can be main characters , or colours , or anything that are complete opposite to each other  Good/bad  Light/dark  Day/night  For example  Batman the dark night  From this picture I can depict 2 binary opposites , Good vs Evil and Dark vs light  with batman being the dark with his all black costume while still being the good guy  while joker is the light in the picture but is the Evil

film poster analysis

Image
As I am new to media studies , one of the ares I needed to get right was the mastering and understanding of the key words and the denotations . As I am studying film opening I decided to to start with film posters . this will really help me to get the hang of the key words and get a better understanding of the codes and conventions of horror using my research into this task . firstly I gave the denotations of a film poster using the key terms to be able to give labels to every aspect of the poster and the codes in a poster . I learned that each element has a specific term that is different to our every day vocabulary . I have gotten a hang of them but need to continue to practise to fully master all of them  I then had a look at the connotations of the denotations of the film poster explaining what I personally interpreted from the images in the poster and how the director is trying to give clues , hint and ideas . This showed me how intentional every part of the poster is  The final p

research on lighting in horror

Image
lighting in horror  low-key lighting  Horror movies frequently employ low-key lighting because of the effects it produces. The dark tone and shadows created by this lighting are appropriate for a horror movie; they increase anxiety because of the film's eerie, enigmatic mood and limit how much of the setting and people are revealed. Through the use of shadows and muted colours, it establishes the tenor, the mood, and a perilous relationship with mystery. (an example of low key lighting used in a film) high-key lighting  apart from low-key lighting horror producers can also use high key lighting , this helps to :  - The lights utilised produce a light hue and are particularly bright.  - To illuminate the entire scene, the lights are frequently placed high above.  - Because the lights are placed high above, they don't need to be changed, making it simple to film continuously.  - Makes use of several hot light sources (fluorescent soft lights).  - Typically seen in comedies and

28 days later Analysis

Image
REFLECTION :  this task was an eye opener on how the directors of 28 days later where able to start their film with a dis-equilibrium and use a dark ocular palette in the first opening scenes . this was useful to learn as it helps me have a clear picture on how I would start my film if I decided to start with a dis-equilibrium . this blog also helped me be able to write down the denotations and connotations of the motion picture which would further improve my media grammar

codes on conventions of a film opening
